I am planning to visit the Boulder area on Sept. 17-23. I would like to do some cycling with the club.
I would appreciate any information on lodging. I will have my own bike.
Thanks,
Bob
Will be in Boulder 10/2 and 10/3 and would love to ride with the club.
I’m an experienced cyclist planning to visit the Boulder area around June 21-30. I’d like to rent a road bike and find a few group rides to do. Our Atlanta area club rides are typically 45-60 miles at 17+ in our version of foothills, but I’m a little concerned about the altitude as my last stay in Breckenridge resulted in frequent headaches. So maybe short rides at first.
I will be in Boulder 4/22-25, I would like to ride on the 24 preferably in the morning. Are there any weekday rides taking place during this time. I am an experienced cyclist from the Atlanta (Alpharetta to be exact) area that rides at least 3x a week. We will be in Steamboat 4/19-22 so acclimatization should not be a problem. Also are there any suggestions as to a bike shop to rent from? Thanks
Hi Steve,
Boulder is quite a bit lower in altitude than Breck. Dehydration is usually a bigger concern than altitude, although both can have similar symptoms. Visitors from sea level often find that they don’t have quite the same power and endurance when they are here. Your visit will overlap with 4 rides associated with the club. There is a Tuesday evening road ride leaving from Boulder Beer that will probably about your pace. We usually get about 2 hours of light after work that time of year so we often get about 30 miles in. There will also be a Thursday evening mountain bike ride as well if that interests you. The Saturday rides on the calendar are in conjunction with Bicycle Village (one of the local shops). That ride is a lot of fun, but a slower pace. They do about 35-40 miles with a stop halfway through for coffee and socializing. We don’t have it on the calendar yet, but we will probably have a separate ride organized on one of those weekends. A lot of our members also get together on weekends that we don’t have scheduled rides. Meet up with us on our Facebook page to connect.
Hi Damon,
I know a few cyclists in Alpharetta and have ridden down there. We have a scheduled club ride at 5:30pm on the 24th. Feel free to join us. Morning might be a little tougher. I suggest posting something up on our Facebook page. Some of our members have a more flexible work schedule.
There many great bike shops in town and almost all of them offer rentals by the week and by the day. Most of them offer a standard road bike as well as a higher performance bike. A few options:
Bicycle Village
University Bicycles
Boulder Bikesmith
Trek Store
Full Cycle
Boulder Cycle Sport
Pricing varies, but not a huge amount.
Hey,
I am from Europe and staying in Boulder from 1st September to the end of March. Does it make sense to take my roadbike with me or is it impossible to cycle in Boulder regarding the waether / conditions in this time of the year? From when to when is it possible to cycle ? Or isnt it at all, because there is to much snow?
Thanks for the information,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
There will be many opportunities to ride between September and March. Sure, we get snow but it is also still quite sunny all winter long. This allows the snow to melt and often the pavement is dry within 30-48 hours of a snowstorm. The city also does a really nice job with keeping the streets and bike paths clear of snow. Many of us here ride all year long.
Hey BCC,
I’m going to be in town Saturday, March 23rd after a short visit for business and I’d like to ride at least 100 miles in the Longmont/Boulder area. I’d like it to be with some fellow riders but I ride alone a lot, just need a good route. Preferably a loop with less than 10K of climbing. I average around 14MPH on a hilly ride with around 7K to 8K of climbing, faster if flatter.
Any suggestions would be welcome. My 2013 goal is to ride 52 centuries and this will be around my 16th if all has gone well by then.

The club I usually ride with is the Almaden Cycle Touring Club (http://www.actc.org/) of San Jose, CA.
Thanks,
Lane
Hi Lane,
There is so much around here that will fit your needs, I’m not even sure where to begin. Jamestown and Ward are two uber classics with lots of climbing. The peak to peak highway is stunning, but may be a little cold while you are here. We’ll have just officially started the season when you are in town. We will be riding that week weather permitting. Join us on our saturday or tuesday ride and we’ll have a lot of info for you and you’ll probably even be able to arrange a few more rides with club members to show you around.

Hi
I am planning to ride the UK – LEJOG which is 1000 miles in 14 days in June 2014. I am planning to visit my uncle in Boulder in April and was planning to stay 1 week and also train in altitude. Planning to do 30 – 50 miles per day. What can you advise please.
Thanks
Salim
1000 miles in 14 days sounds like a lot of fun. We’ll be posting our 2014 ride schedule soon and you are welcome to join us for a ride while you are in town. We can give you plenty of suggestions on where to ride.
Hi,
I’ll be visiting Boulder from the UK for a few days (15th-18th September) and am keen to do a bit of cycling. Could I possibly join in some rides during that time? I won’t have my bike with me – might you be able to recommend somewhere good to rent a road bike?
Best,
Oscar
