As part of the stimulus package money one of the most dangerous intersections in Boulder for cyclists will now be addressed. A stoplight will be installed at the intersections of North Broadway and Highway 36.
This is the sight of the tragic death of cyclist Michael McCutcheon last year when he was run over by a dump truck as he attempted to cross the intersection. The Boulder Cycling Club applauds this move to create a safer cycling environment for the whole cycling community. I personally witnessed the aftermath of that accident last year as I passed the spot shortly after the accident had occurred. It’s one of those moments you never forget and it’s great news that that intersection, which is one of the major jumping off points for cyclists heading north, will now be a safer situation for everyone. The Boulder Cycling Club stresses Safety First and this gets us one step closer to a safer cycling environment in Boulder.

Rides, Notes, & More…
This month’s weather has been very unpredictable so remember all rides are weather permitting! We do not ride in wet weather or if there is a threat of thunder
I am ready for a bike revolution. Can we build a bike path down to Golden? It would pay for itself (over time) in commerce alone. It’s not that far, but it’s much too dangerous to bike no matter which way you go.
US 36 (from Boulder to Lyons) is a nice stretch, but it’s very dangerous because of the high-speed traffic. Always ride single file, use a rearview mirror, and be very careful! Ride defensively! Don’t assume that drivers see you. Keep to the side. Use your head.
Hard economic times have just about everyone looking for ways to save money. Go car-free! It’s easier than it looks. Even in winter. You can do it! Just protect your fingers and toes, and avoid ice after major snowfalls.
Obama is talking about a revolution, and that’s great, but without much mention of a bicycle revolution. We have never had a better opportunity to take over. Let’s go!
